Safety Tips |
| |
- Do not use appliances when
standing in water or on a damp floor. The
human body is a good conductor of electricity.
- In case of electrical fire, unplug the
affected appliances or shut off the
power from the main control panel. If the fire is
a small one, then
put it out
with a Class "C" electrical fire extinguisher, multi-purpose
fire extinguisher,
or baking
soda.
NEVER use water! If the fire is too big
to put out, then
leave immediately and take everyone with you. Then,
call the fire
department, giving them the name and address. Be sure to tell them
that it
is an electrical fire.
- Never replace a fuse with a penny in
the fuse box! The fuse is for your
protection, and if the circuit gets overloaded,
the
wires in the wall
can
overheat, causing a house fire.
- Never insert a metal object into a
toaster or any other electrical appliance.
Metal conducts electricity, which
could result
in serious injury or
death.
- Never use an electric appliance in or
around a tub or shower. The water
can become energized, totally frying and
killing you!
- Do not overload extension cords and
power strips with more appliances
than what they are designed to handle.
- If a power line was to fall on your
vehicle, do NOT get out until emergency
personnel arrive. If you absolutely must
leave
your car due to a fire
or other
emergency, then jump clear without touching the car and the ground at
the
same time.
Be sure to land with your feet together. Then, shuffle away
with
your feet close together.
- If someone is ever shocked, do not
touch them if they are in contact with
an electrical power source - shut off the
power
from the main control
panel!
Then call for help, and be sure to report that the victim is suffering
from an
electrical injury. If the victim is not breathing, then apply CPR if
you are
certified. Be sure to keep their head low
and cover them with a
blanket,
until help arrives.
- Keep away from Pad-mounted
transformers. Do not dig near them or pry
them open. If you ever find one that
is unlocked,
contact the
appropriate
electrical utility immediately.
