REMC Connect SpotlighTS Member Spotlight Growing with Good Values At The Eaton Farm, the focus is simple: good food, good practices, and good values. For Jerry and Liz Eaton, farming is about more than just providing fresh food; it’s about promoting health, wellness, and a connection to the land. Their commitment to growing food with integrity has guided their farm since its beginning, ensuring that every product they offer supports the well-being of both their customers and the environment. Jerry, a lifelong farmer from Scott’s Ridge, and Liz, a Cincinnati native, have worked side by side on the farm since meeting at Berea College, where they both studied Agriculture and Natural Resources. Liz was drawn to rural life and local food production, and together, they’ve been full-time vocational farmers since 2008. Their passion for farming and their values have made their farm a special place, not just for them but for their entire family. The Eaton Farm is located in the rolling hills of Jefferson County, Indiana, just 70 miles southeast of Cincinnati. The 115-acre farm has been in Jerry’s family for generations, first purchased by his grandparents, the Scotts. The farm’s landscape features broad fields that slope into wooded hollows, requiring careful farming practices to prevent erosion. While the farm may be small, Jerry and Liz wouldn’t want it any other way. They’re not looking to expand beyond their current size, as they believe being small is what makes them special. Their goal is to continue producing nutrient-dense meats, eggs, and produce that contribute to the health of their customers and the environment. They’re excited for the local community to have easy access to their farm products soon through the brand-new Growing Minds Farm Stop, a student-led farmer collective shop coming to downtown Madison in 2025, open daily year-round. Jerry & Liz Eaton THE EATON FAMILY The upcoming season is already in full swing, with Jerry and Liz preparing by starting seeds, ordering chicks, and taking care of the many tasks that come with the start of a new year. Throughout all of it, they continue to rely on Southeastern Indiana REMC for the electricity that powers everything from their meat freezers to the heaters that keep their chicks warm. The Eatons appreciate being part of a cooperative like SEIREMC. As members of a non-profit, they feel their voices are heard and valued in a way that for-profit companies simply don’t offer. They’re proud to be able to support their farm while also supporting the larger SEIREMC community. Though The Eaton Farm doesn’t operate as a storefront, the family encourages members to connect with them online at theeatonfarm.com . They offer a chance to support the farm’s mission and enjoy high-quality, locally produced goods, all while staying true to the values that have been passed down through generations. SEI REMC EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT Dianna Jeffries has been a valued member of the REMC team for 38 years. As Payment Coordinator, she plays a key role in assisting members with payment inquiries, processing transactions, managing service transfers, and supporting fiber and generator services. She appreciates the co-op’s family-oriented environment and finds fulfillment in providing members with helpful, personal service. Hearing their gratitude, especially for speaking with a real person instead of an automated system, makes her work even more rewarding. Outside of work, Dianna enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandbabies. Dianna Jeffries
- REMC Connect Community Corner | SEIREMC
Community Corner INVESTING in the Future At Southeastern Indiana REMC, we are committed to engaging with students and job seekers to inspire future careers in the energy industry. Already this year, we had the opportunity to participate in several career and job fairs, including those at South Ripley Elementary School, Canaan Community Academy, and the Ripley County Chamber. These events allowed us to connect with young professionals, answer questions about careers in the electric cooperative world, and highlight the impact of working in our industry. Through these fairs, we introduced attendees to the many career paths within the cooperative, from engineering and linework to customer service, IT, and business operations. By sharing our experiences and industry knowledge, we hope to encourage the next generation of skilled professionals to explore opportunities in energy and technology. These career fairs also provided a chance to strengthen our relationships within the community and demonstrate our commitment to workforce development. As we met students and job seekers, we discussed the essential role Southeastern Indiana REMC plays in powering homes, businesses, and schools throughout our service area. We appreciate everyone who took the time to visit with us and learn more about the opportunities available at Southeastern Indiana REMC. Events like these help shape a brighter future, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to support and inspire the workforce of tomorrow.
