- What is Streaming TV | SEIREMC
Every family’s needs are a little different, and your home internet and TV experience should fit what works best for you. If you’ve been using cable or satellite for years, you may be wondering what streaming is and if it’s the right choice for your home. Let’s take a look at how streaming works and what makes it different from traditional TV. What is streaming? Streaming TV allows you to watch your favorite movies, shows, and live channels using the internet instead of a cable or satellite connection. There are a variety of streaming services, such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video, that give you access to a wide range of content—all in one place. Many services also offer live TV, including news, sports, and local channels. Streaming gives you more flexibility, allowing you to choose what you watch and when you watch it—without the need for traditional TV equipment. Benefits of Streaming: Streaming gives you more control over how, when, and where you watch—while often helping you save money. Only pay for what you watch Choose the services that fit your interests instead of paying for large cable packages. Flexible subscriptions Many streaming services let you pause or cancel at any time, making it easy to adjust based on your needs—like during a sports off-season. Watch anywhere, anytime Enjoy your favorite shows on your TV, phone, tablet, or laptop—whether you're at home or on the go. Fewer commercials Many streaming services offer ad-free viewing or limited interruptions, so you can enjoy more of what you want to watch. Better experience with reliable internet With fast, reliable internet like SEI Fiber, you can stream smoothly without buffering or interruptions—perfect for family movie nights or watching on multiple devices. Which Streaming Platforms Should I Choose? With so many streaming options available, it can feel overwhelming at first—but getting started is easier than you might think. Depending on what you like to watch, you may only need one or two services. And even if you choose a few, many people still spend less than they did with traditional cable. Two Types of Streaming There are two main types of streaming to consider: On-Demand Streaming Watch movies and shows anytime you want. You can pause, rewind, and rewatch your favorite content whenever it fits your schedule. Examples include Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video. Live TV Streaming Watch live channels like news, sports, and local programming—similar to traditional TV, but through the internet. Many live TV services also include features like recording, pause, and replay. Examples include YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, and DIRECTV Stream. What Should You Choose? Many people choose a combination of both—using live TV for channels and sports, and on-demand services for movies and shows. The best setup depends on your household, your interests, and how you like to watch. Popular streaming options Here are a few common services to help you get started: Live TV Streaming: YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV On-Demand Streaming: Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video Sports & Specialty: ESPN+, Peacock, Paramount+ Streaming services, features, and pricing may vary. Visit each provider for the most up-to-date information. Getting Started with Streaming Getting started with streaming is easier than you might think. Many people begin with one or two services and adjust over time based on what they enjoy watching. You can explore different streaming services, try free trials, and find what works best for your household. With flexible subscriptions, it’s easy to make changes whenever your needs shift. What Do You Need to Start Streaming? Streaming requires just a few simple things: Fast, reliable internet With SEI Fiber, you can enjoy smooth streaming without buffering or interruptions. A streaming device You can watch using: A smart TV connected to the internet A streaming device like a Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick, or Apple TV A phone, tablet, or laptop connected to Wi-Fi A streaming service Choose one or more services based on what you like to watch—live TV, movies, shows, or sports. Keep It Simple You don’t need everything to get started. Many households begin with just one device and one streaming service. As you get more comfortable, you can add additional services or devices to fit your preferences. Helpful Tip Many streaming devices offer easy-to-use menus and features like voice search, making it simple to find your favorite shows across multiple apps. Tips for the Best Streaming Experience To ensure your TV receives a strong Wi-Fi signal, place your router in a central location in your home. This helps provide better coverage and a more reliable connection. If you plan to stream in a room farther from your router, you may want to consider a Wi-Fi extender to help boost your signal and keep your connection strong throughout your home. With fast, reliable internet from SEI Fiber, you can enjoy smooth streaming in every room—whether you're watching on one device or multiple at the same time.

- Grassroot Advocacy | SEIREMC
Grassroots Political engagement helps electric cooperatives continue to serve rural Indiana well. Grassroots advocacy is a crucial component. Why Politics Matter For most people, their electricity provider is just the company that keeps the lights on. But an electric cooperative’s relationship with its consumer-owners is different. Since the 1930s when Indiana’s electric cooperatives were formed, they’ve thrived because of the political engagement between their consumer-owners and local, state and federal governments. Indiana’s electric cooperatives advocate for rural Hoosiers like you on the state and federal levels so they can continue providing safe, reliable and affordable energy — and maintain the quality of life in rural communities. But electric cooperatives need your help in the process, too. Indiana’s electric cooperatives thrive when their consumer-owners stay politically engaged and advocate for policies that help cooperatives best serve their consumers. How can you do this? It all starts with grassroots activism. In the context of the electric cooperative program, "grassroots" is a powerful word. In fact, the historical success of the electric cooperatives can be credited to grassroots activism. The electric cooperative definition of “grassroots” is “electric cooperative activists — directors, managers, employees and consumer-owners — who take an active role in the political process to protect their cooperative from harmful legislation and regulation, as well as to promote the value of cooperative ownership to their legislators.” Grassroots involvement means communicating with your local, state and federal legislators on issues affecting electric cooperatives. Grassroots — the unified efforts and voices of the nation’s electric co-op supporters — has proven to be the foundation of the industry’s 85 years of success in serving electric co-ops, their owners and their communities. What does a Grassroot Advocate do ? By registering as an advocate for Indiana’s electric cooperatives, you will be kept up to date on major legislative and political utility issues at both the state and federal levels. You will receive monthly communication via email or text alert, ranging from educational pieces, surveys, story collections, and even calls to action. Grassroots advocates for Indiana’s electric cooperatives help keep rural Indiana strong and the cooperative voice heard. Advocates may also be called upon to contact their legislators and speak up for Indiana’s electric cooperatives. As a grassroots advocate, you will be on the front lines of keeping rural Hoosiers’ voices loud and strong. Sign up to be a Grassroots Advocate action.indianaec.org

- Vegetation Management | SEIREMC
Vegetation Management Our communities depend upon the safe, reliable and affordable delivery of electricity. One of the leading causes of interruptions to the safe flow of electricity is trees and other plants growing too high or coming too close to power lines. To safeguard the reliability of the distribution system, Southeastern Indiana REMC has implemented a vegetation management plan to control the growth of trees and other woody-stemmed vegetation around equipment and rights-of-way. The goal of this plan is to balance our society's need for reliable energy with respect for the environment while complying with all applicable laws and federal requirements. Proper selection and placement of trees minimizes the need for utility pruning Trees are responsible for nearly two-thirds of our outages each year Southeastern Indiana REMC trims trees on our electric system on a regular 5-year cycle Trees must coexist with a variety of human-made structures, both above and below ground. Most commonly they compete for space with overhead power lines, but trees also conflict with communication lines, street lighting, buildings, lines of sight, sidewalks, roads, and underground utilities. The best way to maximize the many benefits provided by trees is to plant them where they will not outgrow their space. However, trees that threaten the integrity of utility or other vital infrastructure must be pruned or removed. Stormy weather can blow tree limbs into distribution lines, causing outages, and even toppling the trunks entirely, breaking poles and creating hazards. Limbs and leaves in contact with power lines can conduct electricity, creating a potentially dangerous condition for anyone who comes near. Tree-to-line contact also contributes to what electric system professionals call "line loss." The term refers to electricity created at a generating plant that does not reach its destination, an inefficiency that increases costs for everyone. Southeastern Indiana REMC spends considerable amounts of money every year to trim trees. The REMC specifies to our contractors that all power lines should be cleared at least 20 feet on each side of the power line and 20 feet underneath the line. Experience has shown us these are the minimum distances we can trim to keep a safe, reliable flow of electricity and be cost-effective. Please contact our office if you have trees on your property that could endanger the power lines. Do not tackle this job yourself. Every year amateur tree trimmers are hurt or killed when trying to clear limbs near power lines. Call the professionals at the REMC. Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Southeastern Indiana REMC partnered with the Cincinnati Zoo in 2011 to allow them to collect clippings twice a week during the months of June, July and August. These clippings are taken back to the zoo, washed and freeze-dried, to help feed the animals throughout the winter months. Helicopter Tree Trimming Highly skilled pilots use a 10-bladed saw, suspended below the helicopter, to trim limbs in right-of-way reducing the risk of injury to tree workers, as well as the time and cost associated with ground-to-sky trimming in difficult terrain and remote areas. National Wildlife Turkey Federation Southeastern Indiana REMC has partnered with the National Wild Turkey Federation to plant wildflowers and grasses in our right-of-way’s when possible
