Over the past few weeks, we have all seen an impact within our communities due to the effects of the presence of COVID-19. As this situation evolves, all of us are assessing how to best keep ourselves and those around us healthy and safe.
Our staff has taken proactive and measured steps to ensure that all our members continue to receive reliable and dependable service during this time. We remain committed to keeping our employees safe and your service on. However, we have altered our traditional "business as usual" practices. We recognize that this is an ever-evolving situation and will require that our staff limit person-to-person interactions as we move forward.
To assist you, we have tools in place that allow you to interact with the staff virtually, such as e-mail, the SmartHub app, and by phone.
Updates about our evolving work practices will be communicated through email, social media and on this web site.
Meeting the needs of our members is what we do every day and you can rest assured that will not change.
Thank you for your continued support.
To safely provide reliable electricity and diversified services to the members and communities we serve.
Southeastern Indiana Rural Electric Membership Corporation (REMC), headquartered in Osgood, Indiana, is a member-owned corporation that has supplied electric power to member-owners since its incorporation on April 29,1939. Southeastern Indiana REMC serves portions of Dearborn, Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, and Switzerland counties in southeast Indiana.
We are a distribution utility - we don't generate our own electricity. We purchase our power from Hoosier Energy, which is headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana. Hoosier Energy is a generating and transmission cooperative owned and controlled by rural electrics in the southern and central parts of Indiana that receive electricity from that organization.
The corporation is wholly-owned by the members it serves and is governed by a board of directors elected by member-owners in each of the 9 voting districts. Employees of the cooperative serve the many residential and industrial accounts.
Southeastern Indiana REMC is one of the largest electric cooperatives in the state.
The simple answer to that question is that when you are a member of a co-op, you are also an owner. You own a stake in our business, and just like any stakeholder, there are many benefits to your membership. As a member of Southeastern Indiana REMC, you have a say in the representatives who are elected to serve on the co-op’s board of directors. You have an opportunity to make your voice heard every year at our Annual Meeting. You get a say on policy issues your electric cooperative supports or opposes. You can even help to determine how your profits are redistributed.
Our bottom line is providing you with safe, reliable and affordable electricity. Sure, we have to think about expenses, overhead and other aspects of daily business, but when we have a little left over, we send it right back to you. Whether we return it to you in the form of a bill credit or a check – you have a say in where that money goes! And returning capital credits to you is a major part of why being a co-op member matters.
As your local electric co-op, we get to be a part of this community. When we think about membership, we think about all of the ways we can give back to you, our members – and that’s what matters most to us.
